Community Action
Established in 1965 as a private nonprofit organization
the Economic Opportunity Corporation of Greater St. Joseph (EOC),
is the designated Community Action Agency serving the needs of
low-income families in Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, and DeKalb
Counties in Northwest Missouri.
Encompassing the goal of providing family-focused , comprehensive
human services, they offer a variety of programming while keeping
their mission intact. They are empowered by the National
Association of Community Action Agencies and associated on
the State level with the Missouri
Association for Community Action Plans for EOC to lead a
dynamic network of resources by the year 2002 are underway to
insure that individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency.
Mission - The Economic Opportunity Corporation Community
Action Agency is dedicated to assisting the individuals and families
of Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, and DeKalb counties achieve self-sufficiency
while preserving their dignity.
Governance - EOC Community Action is governed by a
15 member Tri-Partied Board of Directors.
In addition to the geographic distribution of membership, one-third
are elected by the low-income to represent their views and opinions;
one-third are elected public officials or their representatives;
and one-third are from the private sector such as labor, religion,
and education.
Programming - Through the Board
of Directors, all segments of the community have a voice
in planning, implementation and evaluation of any EOC activity.
